The Opportunity.

We are seeking to establish a pool of suitably qualified applicants for the role of Quarantine Inspector (Road Checkpoint) at the WA/SA Road Checkpoint.

You will be part of a dedicated team with an ongoing commitment in maintaining Western Australia’s enviable pest and disease free status. In this frontline role, you will be required to identify potential biosecurity risks at the state border.

You will have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of travellers and commercial transport operators; on average more than 120,000 vehicles enter through the road checkpoints each year. All vehicles require inspection and the occupants questioned to ensure any biosecurity risk is identified.

In considering your application and suitability, please note the following about the location:

Western Australia boasts beautiful regions, foods and marine wildlife and now more than ever it is our duty to protect, grow and innovate to build stronger communities and better places. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is the WA State Government agency that works to develop and protect Western Australia’s agriculture and food sector, aquatic resources, and build vibrant regions with strong economies.

This opportunity is a key role located in the iconic Goldfields-Esperance region, which is home to striking landscapes, gold rush heritage and Indigenous history. There is so much to see and do and working in this region; you can start your journey of discovery at the Hannans North Tourist Mine or Museum of the Goldfields and follow the Golden Quest Discovery Trail, leading you from Kalgoorlie-Boulder through Coolgardie, Menzies and Laverton and deep into the Goldfields. This natural bounty, combined with its historic buildings, character pubs and remnants of more than a century of gold rush history, makes the Goldfields a truly unique Australian outback destination to start your next adventure.
